MY THOUGHTS ABOUT IBADAN..
04:17Hi guys…
Guess what?? I’m becoming a ‘big girl’, haha, you can laugh o, its allowed. You know I grew up in a family where my dad or mum MUST go with me or my siblings if we have to travel outside the state we lived (Lagos State). I have never travelled alone till yesterday though. If my parents can't go with us, they would call an aunt or older family friend to go with us. Twas that bad.
Last year December, two of my sisters and I where supposed to travel to the village on our own, we were so excited. Just for my dad to tell us a night before that we would be going with a family friend. The family friend took us to benin, we boarded a bus from there to our village and my dad told our uncle to pick us and take us to the house. In the end, we didn’t travel by ourselves, plus our dad was calling almost every hour to know where we where. Now you under the kind of parents I’m talking about. I love them like that sha..
Ehen, back to the story of the day. Yesterday, I and I alone went to a bus park and boarded a bus to Ibadan. Please don’t say Ibadan here, Ibadan is not here o, its far, very far. I sat for almost 6 hours, to and fro, my butt still aches. What took me to Ibadan sef, ok I remember Shanyi Organics did. Remember in this post I said we use purely natural products, I was not joking when I said that. I had to go all the way to Ibadan to source for the original local ‘ose dudu’ (black soap). You know you guys are that special we can go to the end of the world to get the best for you *winks*.
Please someone should tell me to stop deviating from the main topic. So, back to Ibadan, the first thing I noticed when we drove into the state was NO TRAFFIC, yes o. Before I continue, let me talk about Lagos first. I have stayed in Lagos for over 20 years so I think I have enough to say about it.
a. Its OVER POPULATED. Every one wants to live in Lagos even if its under a bridge or in an uncompleted building. As long as its Lagos, they are fine.
b. Lagos traffic is capable of doing the following to an individual.
I. Change your mood from good to bad obviously.
II. Make you angry, because at the end of the traffic you would find that there was no reasonable cause actually. Maybe two proud people that refused to wait for each other.
III. Make you hungry, even though you just had breakfast.
IV. Lagos traffic is 'anti healthy eating' . Have you vowed like me that you won't take soda or frizzy drinks again? Lagos traffic would not allow you. Those hawkers don’t sell chilled coke and fanta alone, they now have iced ones and I’m sorry I can't resist the sight of iced teem, I have tried several times, it didn’t work.
c. Lagosians are aggressive, abusive, inpatient, every one has a very important appointment to meet, proud, I can go on and on. Every one wants to cheat his neighbor. No one cares about the other.
d. Things are expensive in Lagos, the environment is tensed up, all kinds of pollution (air, water, etc) is on the increase daily, crime rate is nothing to write home about.
I think I should stop here before all my Lagosian friends would unfriend me on Facebook.
Now, let me talk about Ibadan. I did not spend up to 10 hours there but the atmosphere I met was completely different from Lagos. First of all like I said earlier there was NO TRAFFIC. If you are familiar with Lagos you would understand why I am emphasizing on NO TRAFFIC. I passed through some major cities and I went to two major markets. I passed through the Governor’s house, the first lady’s office, the University of Ibadan amongst others and there was no traffic even during ‘rush hours’. The state is not as populated as Lagos, I could almost count the number of cars on the road. The residents are organized and kind. When they see a stranger they are willing to help unlike Lagos where they would look out for strangers to cheat. When I got to the market, (I don’t understand their language so well but I can tell when you are insulting me or cheating me) an elderly man left what he was doing and came to my side helping to interpret what the old women were saying and vice versa. I was like WOW, who has your time in Lagos. They would rather insult and cheat you instead.
What caught my attention again was the landscape of the State, twas so beautiful. I wished I had a very good camera with me. Can you imagine, I almost forgot this. They dont have 'danfo buses' (those annoying yellow buses that have ruined some of my best clothes in Lagos). Ain't that AH - MAZ - ING.
Let me stop here before some people would say I'm talking too much. The summary of my visit to Ibadan yesterday is the life in Ibadan is hustle free and beautiful compared to Lasgidi. So guys, please start fasting and praying for me o, I'd be going for service in March this year and I want to be posted to Ibadan. I'm tired of Lagos jare, my stay here is long over due, 20 years in a place is not a joking matter. Please If you are reading this from Ibadan, start searching for a nice apartment for me o. God will bless your labour of LOVE, Amen.
If you have not ordered your Shanyi Organics products, stay there o. When I increase the price, don't beg me because I will not listen o..
Have you been to Ibadan before, or do you reside there?? Share your thoughts about Ibadan in the comment box below. I really want to hear from you..
Ok guys, talk to you later. Cheerios..

very true dear...Ibadan is actually a very beautiful place and one doesn't have to go through as much stress as is the case in Lagos. But trust me, it has its own share. As for NYSC, i guess that makes two of us except for the fact that i might have to go to the mountain first since I'm from Ibadan.
ReplyDeleteYes oooo. Although I've not been to Ibadan, I've heard stories. I have a beautiful image of Ibadan on my mind.
ReplyDeleteAs for the hair product, kept mine and I'm buying at a discounted rate. #winks
Ibadan is really a cool place to live... it's a second home for me. Thoughts of relocating has not left me. But, it also does have it fair share of traffic but cant be compared to the annoying Lagos
ReplyDeleteIbadan my city!! I went to Lagos in December last year because everyone says it's the most fun la la, but Shanyi the traffic....it was out of this world - and as you said, more often than not, the cause is absolutely pointless!!
ReplyDeleteGoing back home to Ibadan was bliss I tell you haha
My dear, pointless is the best word to describe Lagos traffic. Ibadan is so full of bliss with better amala and ewedu *winks
