BE TRULY NATURAL

05:06

Hi guys, happy Sunday. Hope y'all had an awesome service. I don’t know if it’s just me that has noticed this, but in the past few years let me say two to three years there's been this “natural hair movement” both in Nigeria and abroad especially Africa and other countries with women that posses thick black hair. Teenage girls, young ladies and even adult women that have relaxed or chemically processed hair for as long as they can remember are all reverting to their natural hair. The hair they formerly termed ugly, unkempt, difficult to manage, nappy, bushy, too thick, coarse and several other ‘un-nice’ names is now referred to as curly or coily, kinky, wonderful, healthy, luxurious, sumptuous and even ‘juicy’, lol… and I am seriously wondering, did the price of relaxers increase or did the salon guys increase the price for retouching or relaxing of hair? What really happened? Is it not the same hair they carried from birth and never liked? Where in the world did the sudden love come from? Hmmn… I’m yet to get real answers to these questions. It’s a good thing anyway, to see God’s creatures finally accepting the natural gift given to them by God and loving their natural hair the way it looks without trying to make their hair look like that of women in the Western world. Research have shown that women in Africa use relaxers more than any other continent in the world and I want to believe that the basic reason for this is because most countries in Africa were initially colonized by the Britain and Americans, so when they got their independence they tried to practice what they saw the white women do to their own hair and this initiated the invention of hot combs and relaxers to make their naturally wiry, curly hair straight, in my opinion. I think everything boils down to self acceptance and respect. Everyone is not created the same, God had a reason for making some people white and others black; for giving some people ‘bushy’ and full hair and giving others straight and ‘scanty’ hair. You need to accept yourself just the way you are created; you are wonderfully and carefully made by God. God doesn’t make mistakes; He knew exactly what He was doing when He gave you that kind of hair, that complexion, that eye color, size and shape of nose, body physique and your other body features.
Humans are very awesome creatures, the fact that God created us to be smart and creative doesn’t mean we should use it to mock Him, cause that’s what I’d call this; you are telling God that He is not wise enough to give you straight hair instead of kinky thick hair or fair complexion instead of white skin. Science and technology has made it possible to enlarge and alter every single part of the human body, both male and female. You hear of bust and butt enlargements, skin bleaching, eye lash extensions, contact lens, hair extensions, tattooing, removal and exchange of reproductive organs (either changing male to female and vice versa) and several other bizarre things that should not be heard. These abnormal trends are now becoming normal, because a celebrity, Hollywood actress, musician or popular footballer is doing it; everyone wants to do it too.

Dear reader, are you truly natural? God wasn’t dozing when He was creating you dear, He knew the exact color of hair and skin, the right proportion of every part of your body and He gave you exactly what you needed to be beautiful. He carefully, I repeat CAREFULLY created you. Trust me; you don’t need all those extensions, enlargements, make up and uplifting to be beautiful, all you need has been given to you freely. All you need do is to nurture and take care of what God has given you and you can do that without those artificial additions. If you want long, healthy natural hair, there are great natural hair products and supplements you can use and take in addition to a good hair regimen of washing, moisturizing and deep conditioning of your hair. If you want a glowing skin, there are natural oils and facial masks that can help you achieve that, you don’t need the makeup or bleaching creams dear. If you want slim, curvy body shape, all you need is a good workout routine, daily jogging and walking, eating healthy, taking enough fruits, vegetables and water and you would be just fine. God knew that we would need all this plants and their extracts to maintain and enhance the beauty He placed in us at creation that’s why He created man last in His image and likeness. He created the plants, trees, fruits, herbs and animals first; He was probably preparing the ground so that man would land safely without lacking anything.
So dear reader, as I bring this piece to an end, I’m asking you once again, ARE YOU TRULY NATURAL? Transitioning from relaxed or texlaxed hair to natural or doing the big chop does not make you truly natural, I’m sorry but that’s the truth. You are probably natural now because it’s the current trend. If tomorrow or next year the trend changes to something else like going completely bald would you remain with your natural hair, won’t you join the crowd? Please don’t allow the society determine who you are, dare to be different, dare to stand for what’s right. This must have been a tough post for some of you, but it’s high time we told ourselves the truth. I’d like to know your take on this, so please and please feel free to drop your comments, questions, criticisms, just anything, I promise not to get offended at harsh comments and please don’t forget to share with your friend, let the world know the truth because it’s only the truth that can set us free.
Love you always. Shanyi.

SHANYI xoxo
