25 'Must Have' Essentials for NYSC Orientation Camp.
01:06Hi guys, can you believe its Thursday already, weekend loading.. :)
As you already know, or for those who don't know, I'd be going to serve my country Nigeria in a few weeks from now. In my beloved country, every college or university graduate is mandated to serve for a year, a scheme called National Youths Service Corps (NYSC). This program usually starts off with a 3 weeks orientatation camp, more like a refugee camp, lol and the corp members or corpers go through rigorous training and fun activities. The sole aim of this is to foster unity and oneness amongst Nigerians.
So, today I'd be sharing some essential things you should throw into your bags to have a successful stay at the orientatation camp.
Shout out to my amazing friend Ayobami, she sent me this comprehensive list, #oyachopkiss..
Here we go...
1. Your documents such as call up letter and green card (please do not laminate this)
2. Passport pictures (12). Either red or white background. You could do both to be on a safe side. Taking passport is expensive in camp
3. Mosquito net.
4. White shorts and t-shirt, about 3 each. You would be given two each in camp but the quality is poor, it could tear easily and turn brown easily
5. White canvas. I advice you go with the rubber type cause there is hardly time to wash in the camp, the rubber ones are easier to wash. You could go with both the rubber and material type though.
6. Your statement of result or certificate.
P.S. Make about 5 photocopies of all your documents before going to camp and put them all in a file.
7. Stapler, pins and gum. This is normally not allowed but trust me you are so going to be needing it. You can buy that smallest size of stapler to avoid being discovered during screening/searching
8. Tipex or correction pen.
9. Provisions e.g. cereal, milo, gari, biscuits etc
10. Ladies' conveniences e.g. sanitary towel
11. Body cream.
12. Under wear (tights and camisoles). This is so important. You need to wear underwear under your white clothes in camp cause they may be transparent. Black under wears please.
13. Extra socks. You would be given two low quality pairs that may tear. Note, the socks should be green and white.
14. Hangers (about 3), pegs
15. Rope you can tie on a tree so as to spread your clothes after washing
16. Bathing soap(2). washing soap
17. Pen, notebook/jotter.
18. Small cooler with cover for getting your food. Spoons and cup.
19. Handkerchiefs.
20. Mufti or Sunday wear. Some camps may not allow you to wear mufti even on Sundays, so just take 1 Sunday wear.
21. Bathroom slippers
22. You could buy buckets in camp.
23. Very good and durable padlocks. This is soo verryy muchhh essential. (dem dey thief wella for camp ehn..dem fit thief full box sef). Just be security conscious.
24. Guys, this is your most important possession in the camp. It is a waist pouch/bag. Your money, phone(s), camera, everything valuable should be here. It should be on your waist 99.999% of the time, when you are asleep, in the bathroom, everywhere.
25. Money, money, money. Not so much but sufficient for your 3 weeks stay in the jungle, lol.
I had fun writing this post, I hope you enjoyed it. I can't say If I am tensed or excited about this camp but I know for sure that I'm going to have lots and loads of fun. I might have a series dedicated to that, who knows :)
